About Reef Signals

Reef Signals is an interactive coral taxonomy which is designed for exploration and comparison. Users can browse the full ocean floor collection before exploring individual corals in detail where they can filter, see pattern recognition, and gain a clearer understanding of coral as indicators of climate stress.

Research in information visualization shows that overview-based interfaces work best with moderately sized datasets that can be seen and compared at once. I selected 50 corals to balance diversity and visual clarity, allowing meaningful filtering and pattern recognition without overwhelming the user operating the interface.
